Self-Tapping Screws
Slotted self-tapping screws utilize a traditional single-slot drive recess combined with a thread-forming or thread-cutting shank geometry. While the slotted drive limits the application of high installation torque due to its susceptibility to cam-out, it remains highly compatible with standard manual hand tools. The screw displaces or removes substrate material to establish a tightly toleranced mechanical lock within a prepared pilot hole. They are primarily relegated to low-torque maintenance tasks, legacy equipment restoration, and light-duty sheet metal joining.
