Wing nuts are specialized manual fasteners characterized by two prominent, opposing radial tabs that provide leverage for tool-free hand torquing and loosening. Produced through cold-forging or die-casting to standards like DIN 315, they facilitate rapid assembly and frequent adjustments without requiring specialized wrenches. Due to their susceptibility to loosening under dynamic loads, they are reserved for low-vibration applications such as temporary clamping jigs, HVAC access panels, and consumer hardware rather than critical load-bearing structural joints.
