Split Pins

Split pins, or cotter pins, are formed from pliable metal wire with a half-circular cross-section designed to be deformed upon installation to lock components in place. Although possessing low shear strength, they function as fail-safe locking mechanisms that resist vibrational backing-out. They are routinely installed through cross-drilled clevis pins and castellated nuts in automotive steering linkages, agricultural machinery, and aerospace flight control systems.
